I wish to type a series of numbers in a column, such as
invoice numbers example: 3-1900, 3-1901 etc. However,
whenver I do this, I get the date Mar-00. Any advice?
 
You can try either formatting the cells as text before you enter your data,
or preceed your data with an apostrophe (as in '3-1900).

Janet,
Go to Formatting, Cells and change your cell format to a
general one instead of the date selection you are getting.
