Can anyone help? I wonder if you can link whole worksheets in Excel XP so
that if you edit a worksheet in one file it will automatically update the
same worksheet in another file?

The example is this: at work I keep annual leave records in a named year
file "Leave 2004" etc. and they run Jan to Dec but I always add December's
sheet from the previous year "Leave 2004" to the start of the new year "Leave
2005" so that if leave runs through end December to start January I can see
how many days in total are taken. It would be great if, when updating
December in the "Leave 2004" file it updates the identical sheet in the
"Leave 2005" file. ANY IDEAS??

You are likely to receive a faster, more knowledgeable response if you post
to an appropriate newsgroup.
Excel gurus generally hang out here:

Microsoft.public.excel
Microsoft.public.excel.links

I wouldn't try this for a whole worksheet, but if the cell range you are
using is known, do this:
1. Copy the desired cells from the source worksheet.
2. Open the target worksheet.
3. Select the first cell in the target worksheet range.
4. Right click to display the menu and select "Paste Special".
5. Select "Paste Link" from the options displayed.

Blank cells from the source worksheet will display as zeros "0" in the
target worksheet. However, you may format the cells with a custom number
format type # to suppress displaying zeros for null cells.

When the copied cells in the source worksheet are changed, the changes will
be displayed in the target worksheet as well.

Yes. But the update occurs only when the sheet being updated is opened; you
will be prompted to do so at that time. Copy source data and paste in new
sheet as a link. I do this for items I want in a separate sheet/workbook.

Unsure about an already open sheet. "Play with it" and see what happens.
