I have backed up excel files using My Sonic DVD to a dvd disk. When
attempt to open the backed up files from the the disk I receive
misrosoft error message "can not save the file because the volume i
locked". I am not attempting to save it just open it.
All of the other files saved on this disk open fine, word, scan soft
pictures... it just all excel files give me the same error message.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Denn

When you open an Excel file it tries to write your name in it. That may be
the problem. Can you open it read-only?

No, it will not open read only. The excel file I am copying to the DV
is not read only, but when it copies it to the DVD it copies as "rea
only, archive". Even if I remove the read only it will still no
open.
A microsoft error message comes up and states the volume can not b
"saved" as it is "locked".
I then copied it to a CD and it opened fine.
I just can't get a handle on what little thing I'm doing that will no
let it open.
Any other thoughts... thanks, Denn

I had the same Excel 'volume is locked' problem when trying to restore
from a backup.

A simple solution is to do a 'right click' copy of the file from the
backup folder and then paste it into a 'local drive' folder. You can
then open it without any problems.... :)
