Hello Everyone,

I use excel to update a master play list for a karaoke show. Whenever
i get new songs I format them into a text file with (-) delimeters.
then import them into existings row by adding the appropriate amount
of rows then using the "import external data/import data" commands I
add the info.

My data is only 15,000 rows long. Suddenly it won't import the data.

Does size really matter when it's this small?
I really need the whole workbook intact to print the lists.
If I have to split the data, how do I move a portion of the data to a
new workbook?
if I split the data, how can I force access to access two workbooks
for one set of data?

I'm so confused.

I use xl2002 and I created a - delimited file with 20,000 records.

I did:
Data|import external data|Import data
pointed at my file and it all the data was there.

I doubled the size of the text file and did
Data|Edit text import|followed the wizard and all 40,000 rows showed up.

If you do your import into a new worksheet or new workbook, do you get all the
rows?

Normally, when I want to bring in a text file, I'll just use File|open and
follow the text to columns wizard there. If I need to move it to a different
location, I'll just copy|paste.

It might work for you until you find the real solution.

I tried data import/edit text file and it deletes half of the
workbook. However, I never got a "wizard" option. I use excel XP

I don't use xl97 anymore, but in xl2002, I can do this:

I can rightclick on the any cell in the imported range.
Then select: Data Range Properties
There's one option at the bottom (I think it's the default):
"Insert cells for new data, delete unused cells"

Do you have that checked?

And what happened when you tried File|open and imported to a new workbook and
then copied that?

Did that workaround do anything better?

Dave, what I ended up doing because you said "with a text edit the
rows will show", up is this:

I took my entire workbook and saved it as a (tab) delimited text file.
opened a new workbook and imported a small amount of data that I
didn't care if it got erased and did an edit text import for the newly
saved-large workbook and it did erase the small amount of data but it
gave me a workbook with all the rows.

I'm not really sure that this is what you intended me to do but after
practicing what you told me to do it became very apparent that I could
do the alternative.

thanks for your help.

Well, I'm glad you got it working.
