There could be any number of reasons as to why this is
happening. Your xls files could be very big, your net work
may have a lot of traffic on it or your desktop machine
does not have enough ram to cache the information locally
(especially if you are using pivot tables connected to an
external database such as SQL Server etc.)- these are
probably the main reasons behind the lack of opening
speed. It is probably best to talk through the problems
with your network administrator to see if they can
investigate it for you.
