Excel opens in "read only" mode as an attachment (using outlook 2003)

When i want to open an Excel file(attachment) from email(using outlook 2003)
is in "read only" mode.
how can i straight away edit the excel file when i double click the excel
file from the email.
 
Open the message first, then open the attachment. The only time attachments
open in "Read Only" mode for me is when I open them from the Preview Pane.
You may also need to select "Edit|Edit Message", though I find this not
necessary when editing Word document attachments.

That's bad practice because you'd be editing a temporary copy that will be
deleted when you close Outlook. Always save attachments to a folder of your
choice before editing them.
