With my Office 2003 Excel it wont open unless i go to a file and open it via
that. All other applications in office open via a short cut...but not excell.

Thanks Jim...but that worked for opening a xl file which inturn opens
excel...Im trying to open excel by clicking on the program under microsoft
office. Nothing happens when i do this, but it does with other applications.

Try re-registering Excel.

Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

With the unregserver...nothing appeared at all. When i did the alternate
regserver it when thru the Windows gatherering info etc...But there has been
no change and still cant startup excel thru the MicrosoftOffice/excel program

Go to Start>Programs>MS Office and right-click on Excel>Properties.

Target should be MS Office and your edition and will be grayed out.

Start in: empty.

i did substitute the icon with the "E (short cut) excel.exe. and now i have
an excel.exe properties which gives me a different properties form. I cant
seem to find the symbol that is similar to those of the other applications.
