Excel Menu Items Disappear

When Excel opens, I have a couple of Add-ins (Lawson and
Essbase) which load. Until a few days ago, there would be
an item on the menu bar for each. Now when Excel opens, I
see the menu bar, including the two items on it for just a
second. Then I have only the standard menu bar. The items
disappear. I can use Tools/Addins to remove the particular
add-in. Then use the same to add it back and the menu item
reappears. But I have to do this every time I open Excel.
Any ideas how to correct this? (I did run the wizard to
repair Excel, but it found no problems).

Hi Mark

I got a mail from Don Guillett this week that he have the same problem
like you with my Google Search Add-in.

I don't know the answer for sure but try this

Maybe you have a corrupt or bloated toolbar file
*normal* size is < 30 kb.
The .xlb file has all Toolbar customization in it.

Close Excel
Do a search for .xlb in windows
Rename the file you found (mine is named Excel10.xlb in 2002)
Start Excel

Deleting the file or renaming will do no harm on your system
Excel will create a new one for you.
(You lost your customization remember that)

If you make your own toolbars or add buttons to the others
This file is important (backup it so you can restore it)

Post back please if this help you

Ron,

Thanks for the tip, but alas, no luck. It made no
difference. At this point, we're probably looking at
reinstalling Excel from scratch...

Thanks anyway,

Mark
