Excel malfunction

Please help! Using MS Office XP Pro and for some reason Excel isn't working correctly. Everytime I open Excel and try to enter data on a new worksheet or alter data on an existing worksheet, a cell will highlight (select) and then Excel acts like I want to select a group of cells. Wherever I move the mouse, the cells become selected and I can't do anything else. It remains in this condition and I have no choice but to exit out of it using Control-Alt-delete. The other suite programs are operating great

Can someone out there give me an assist? It's driving me batty and I can't do any spreadsheet homework on my computer

A common cause of this is that you are in "Extended" or "Add" mode.

If you see "EXT" or "ADD" down on the status bar try hitting F8 key a couple
of times.

F8 will will toggle you in and out of Extended mode. SHIFT + F8 will put you
in "ADD" mode.

If you are using a wheel-mouse tap the wheel a couple times.

I posted the same problem a couple of days ago ("Excel Probelem!!!" Dated
9Feb2004). Then I saw someone else posted this problem ("Is this a bug"
Dated 9Feb2004). Now you are the third!!!

I had a lot of responses trying to help but nothing works.

I am starting to believe this is a virus of some sort.

Maybe someone out there can verify.

Best of luck. Let me know if you solve this as I will do the same.
