excel links

Running excel X for a mac, 2001. Have workbooks with links that are
not locatable by searching for "!" in worksheets, and link to deleted
Workbooks. Am unable to find link source, or find link destination
workbook, or change links. Copying worksheets to a new Workbook
takes the links with them. Have exhausted net search. Can anyone help
me to kill these pesky links, please?

Sometimes the links are in Names in Insert>Name>Define.
