Excel into Access

I am not an access person but am trying - I have an excel report to import
into access and then I have to export it out in a dat (?) file to upload into
another system. Can anyone give me real simply steps to go about doing this?
I want to save this file in access because I will be doing this monthly.

From Access with a new database open or an existing database open; go to
the File menu - Get External Data - Import, use the drop down choice for
file time to choose a XLS file time and go to the source file.
