trying to create a histogram in excel

have my class intervals in one column like this

449.5 - 474.5
474.5 - 499.5
499.5 - 524.5
524.5 - 549.5
549.5 - 574.5
574.5 - 599.5

I have no idea what goes where on the next page thats opens up (the data
analysis histogram tool)

there is "input range" what goes here?
Bin range.. what goes here?

i have this set of data in this table layout

Class Int Midpoint (x) Freq (f) Rel Freq Culm
fx fx²

449.5 - 474.5 462 3 0.15
3 1386 1920996
474.5 - 499.5 487 5 0.25
8 2435 5929225
499.5 - 524.5 512 4 0.2
12 2048 4194304
524.5 - 549.5 537 3 0.15
15 1611 2595321
549.5 - 574.5 562 0 0
15 0 0
574.5 - 599.5 587 5 0.25
20 2935 8614225

note: you might need to maximize the message window to view the above table
correctly

anyhow my question is what goes into which field in the histogram data
analysis tool?

please help it has me stumped

ps please speak in english as i am pretty pathetic at mathematics

any help would be much appreciated

Thanks (in advance)

sorry that never came out properly the data set, i just need to know what
goes where? it is very important

this is not working for me at all

I need to know what parts of my data go where out of the following things

Inout range (is this the actual data or the class int?)

and the Bin (what the hell is this?)

and as for the output range i have gathered that is where the histogram
table will be output

can someone also instruct me how to go about turning this table into a
graphical histogram? in excel of course

Regarding the Histogram tool:
I need to know what parts of my data go where out of the following things
Inout range (is this the actual data or the class int?) <

Input range is the location of the raw data on a worksheet.
and the Bin (what the hell is this?) <

Bin range is a list of values on a worksheet containing the upper limit of
each interval.

The Histogram tool produces a frequency distribution (which you already
have) and a column (vertical bar) chart of the frequency distribution.

For more information, choose Tools | Data Analysis | Histogram | Help.

graphical histogram? in excel of course <

Since you already have a frequency distribution, instead of using the
Histogram tool, you could use Excel's ChartWizard to construct a Column
chart type using the frequencies, and you could use your class intervals to
label the horizontal axis.

Alternatively, you could use my add-in, available from the "Better
Histograms" page at www.treeplan.com.

thanks for the help

the problem i was having was pretty crude

i had my class intervals (lower and upper) in one column seperated by a "-"
i was getting a message saying "contains non numeric values) same happened
when i tried seperating the two by a space, i eventually added the endpoint
of each class in seperate columns and used them as the input range, once i
had crated the table i used the table to create a column like graph like you
suggested i placed this over the top of the table created by the histogram
tool and deleted the cells that contained the end point of each class

it works great now

thanks
