Hello, I'm using windows xp pro and I have a excel 2000
file that is on a network drive. I created the file and
edited it earlier today. When I try to edit it now I get a
message that the file is locked for editing by Cristy(which
is me). I haven't locked the file in any way and do not
have it open anywhere else. I then opened it and did a save
as and called it another name. Now when I try to edit the
new file I get the same message and when I try to delete
the old file I get an access denied, file is locked
message(or something to that effect). Can anyone help me
unlock this file or at least delete it?
Thanks.

Usually caused by a tmp file associated with the Excel file that did not
delete on closing the file.

Logout and login to the server again. Set the Folder Options for the
network location where the Excel files are to show hidden files, if
there are any .tmp files there delete them. Open My Computer, C: drive,
set folder options to show hidden files, do a search on the local C:
drive for *.tmp files, delete them (you may not be able to delete all
*.tmp files as some are in use by the system, delete all of them that
you can and it may take several searches) and try again.
