Excel data validation

Greetings all. First poster here.

I'm working on making some changes to a rather elaborate Exce
spreadsheet that was developed by a predecessor.

One of the changes I have been asked to make involves a cell wher
input is restricted by values contained in a list. I was asked if th
cell's value can be set by a conditional statement while stil
retaining the cell validation. The value to be selected based on th
condition is in the list used for data validation. I've trie
inputting the conditional statement but get an error stating that "Th
value you entered is not valid".

Any advice would be appreciated
