In addition to those below, which seems no one has an
answer, my additional question is why in Excel are the
settings from my old files not being carried over into
openning them in the new Excel. It's frustrating because
I have to keep checking the print preview property info
to make sure that it prints right, and even with that I
still sometimes get errors or off center printing which
causes me to have a pile of wasted paper!

Daniel,

Have you tried copying the file from your floppy to the root directory (C:\)
on your machine.
Open the file from there and SaveAs to the folder you want to keep it in.
Delete the file in the root directory.

That may sort it out for you.

I had to move directory structures(trees, branches, more branches, etc) from one set of servers to newer ones several years ago. Ran into this excat problem when my script would fail. There is a limit of 255 characters (this is in an NT4.0 environment). Each character whether it be a colon, a backslash, a letter, or other acceptable character counted against the 255 character limit. I was forced (to the occasional chagrin of the users) to rename files or rename files and move them up the directory structure to allow my process to work. Have you tried opening the files and then trying the "Save As" process to get them to save to the new machine?
