Excel Auto Filter will not show all items in the drop down - why?

I have a huge spreadsheet.
I started the Auto Filter. In the drop down for one of the rows it will not
show me the content even though the filter is set for "ALL" on each column -
any idea why?

It' limited to 1000 prior to Excel 2007.
