excel -auto filter freezes

Several of my registers are affected with the freezing. The aut
filters just freeze and half your work is lost amongst the filters, s
you have to either bring them all back manually by clicking on th
left-hand side numbers or close without saving and lose your work.

Last time it happened i had to do a restore job from back-up and i
had to re-input my work. any ideas? i have also tried to copy it into
different spreadsheet but it still has the same affect,
can you help?
