Excel auto deleting zero at start of cell - change?

Entering SS# beginning with a zero in a cell - Excel auto defaults to next
number and deletes the zero - how do I change this default setting?
 
You can't change this behavior but you can work around it.

Enter an apostrophe before typing the SS number.

OR format the cells to Text before entering the SS number.
