Excel Attachments

I am running Office 2007. When I receive an attachment in Excel 2003 format,
Outlook attempts to open it as a Word document. I have to save and open as
Excel in order to read it. Why is Outlook defaulting to Word to try to open
these?

Sounds like your Windows file associations are misconfigured.
 
How do I fix that?

RIght-click any Excel file on your hard drive, choose Open With from the
context menu, select Excel, and make sure the "Always use this program" box is
checked.
