I always go about this a totally different way.
In Access go to File>Get external data>Link tables...
In the dialog, select 'files of type' as Excel and navigate to your Excel
file, select the sheet, range, etc to link and then it will sit as a pseudo
table and can be used throughout Access's UI.
I prefer this method, tend to do a swift 'Make Table Query' make an access
table from the Excel and Voila!. You can of course also set up an update,
append or any other type of action query.
It takes one key press to delete the link too ;-)
