Zeros to the left of a whole number, e.g. 0008781, are
truncated when copied from a Word document into an Excel
spreadsheet even when I preformat the Excel cells as text
cells before copying and pasting. The number is copied as
8781 instead of 0008781. This process used to work in
Office 97 but no longer works since my system was upgraded
to Office 2000. Any response(s) will be very much
appreciated!!!

I find that if I preformat the Excel cells as Text and then do an Edit,
Paste Special, Text the numbers come in from Word with the leading zeros
preserved.

Set your cell as text cell before to copy your data, and
paste the number in the formula bar of this cell instead of
copying it directly in the cell, it seems to work.

You don't understand?

The format of the cell should be set as text before to
paste the number in it. The number with zeros to the left
is copied from Word and should be pasted in the Excel
formula bar of the cell where you want to have your number.
Doing things like that will prevent to lose zeros to the
left of a whole number. It works very fine for me.

I dont have a clue what you are trying to answer with this.

If the excel cells are formatted as text and you copy then Paste Special --
choose text. Pasting into the formula bar is awkward

(btw my ???? would have been unneccessary if there was any reference to the
original question in your answer..... but I see now that you are using the
Windows website rather than a real newsreader)
