I'm currently having a problem with Excel 97 running on Windows XP
Home in which every time I go to save a file it truncates whatever I
put in the filename to 1 letter. ie Filename "Units" becomes "U".

Any ideas?

There have been a few posts describing the same problem. I searched google and
found this:

The last post in the thread suggested an answer. (I think it has something to
do with WindowsXP). I don't think I've ever seen this option in Win98 or
WinNT.)

Copying from that post:

I think I have the solution to the problem:

Excel was running in Windows 95 compatibility mode. When I disabled
compatibility mode the file name problem went away.

Thanks Dave

That worked a treat. I was a bit bemused as I have two machines
running XP Home & Excel 97 and only one of them was displaying the
symptom.

Many thanks once again.
