Excel 97 hangs when dragging\copying a cell

I have a user who has Excel 97 freeze when trying to
highlight a cell and drag\copy it to another cell. The
platform is Windows 2000 professional with Office 97.
 
I've also got this problem and am currently researching
it. I've had it constantly for several years, it occurs
about once a month, initially on windows 3.11 and Excel 5,
currently on Windows NT with Excel 97-SR2.
