Excel 2007 open file,asks to save changes

When I open any of a particular set of Excel files on a share, once the file opens, it immediately asks if I want to save changes and have to cancel the request before it will let me access the file. If I select Yes or No as opposed to Cancel, the program hangs. This happens for all users and from any computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
