Excel 2002

Every time I open a document,it says in (status bar) Requesting Virus Scan.
So I have to wait on the scan before it opens. How can I stop this scan?
Windows ME,AVG 7.5 free Anti Virus (it also did this with Norton). Please
help!!!!
 
Not an Excel issue.

Set the defaults on your AVG 7.5 to not check *.xls files.
