Excel 2000 freezes with 100% CPU

When Excel is started for one user on a Windows 2000
computer it takes the CPU usage to 100% and Excel will not
start. If I logon as another user Excel opens without a
problem. The user it works for is an administrator on the
machine, the user it does not open for has been made an
administrator but it still will not open.

I even uninstalled Office 2000 as the user having the
problem and the same results occur. 100% CPU and no Excel
for the one user and Excel opens just fine for the other.

Anybody know what is going on here?
Thanks in advance,
Jan

Try finding and deleting the *.xlb file. This is the toolbar customisation
file, so you will lose all csutomisations, but I guess that's not really a
problem at the moment anyway. This file tends to get bloated and cause Excel to
keel over, and Excel will simply create a new file when you restart it. This
would be a problem even if you uninstall and reinstall, so it may possibly be
the problem. You can always just rename the file if you prefer to *.old, and it
will have the same effect.
