Hi Yaron,

You have small hidden EWF partition left on your disk from previous builds.
Use diskpart.exe to find and delete it.

"Disk Management" can't see this partition.

Best regards,
Slobodan

Hi Slobodan and all,

I've been reading all day threads from the NG about EWF and cloning, and got
the idea that it is quite problematic. the recommendation were to use RAM
EWF without a temporary partition, and there was a link for Slobodan's
EWF-RAM component in xpefiles.com.
I added the component to my image and as for the instructions- disabled the
original "Enhanced Write Filter" Component. but I can't see any change.
although the instructions says the -disable command won't work- it does
work.
and also the EWF starts as Enabled, although it is set to Enabled=0 in the
EWFRAM.

another odd fact is that when watching the drive in Disk Management, I
couldn't see any partition no matter if I used the original EWF nor EWFRAM.
how could I know it is setup ok so I could go and start the cloning?

thanks,

YaronM

Or etprep /delete.

Thanks Slobodan,

You were perfectly correct.
the diskpart.exe gave me an error saying the partition is important for the
OS and therefore could'nt be deleted.
I used Paragon Partition Manager 6.0 to delete it.

thanks,

YaronM

Hey, i try also to do that, because i have problem with cloning the
Special partition.

But when i ran the TD i get the error that the file "818822_ewfapi.dll"
was not found.

I installed the Hotfix Q823025.
Where/how can i search for that file ?

Dietmar

Hi Dietmar,

This dll is part of EWF API QFE and if you don't use it you can disable this dll from TD.
It is not required for EWF to operate. So you can ignore error or do what I told above.

Best regards,
Slobodan

Thanks for that quick answer,
i think i dont need this api, because my problem is the additional
partition.

I want to clone my image and this extra partition makes trouble.
Maybe someone has an idea:
My System:
XPe SP1
(incl Hotfixes : Q810144/Q811279/823025 and the XPe SP1 Doc Update)
256MB DOM ( Disk on Module with 40pin IDE interface )
3 Partitions ( NTFS )
Partition C is a compressed partition
EWF (RAM ) protects C and D ( not on first startup )
I made all extra settings and run fbreseal ( same problems without
fbreseal )
I try Ghost, DriveImage and Acronis TrueImage but only TrueImage
can read my compressed C partition and found this extra "EWF" partition.

After i clone the system all seems to work, but i cant aktivate EWF
i get the error message:
Failed getting protected volume configuration with error 1.

So i hope this will fix the problem.

An other idea was to create this partition after cloning but i cant find
a howto to do that.
MS :
A wish for the next update, put this function in fbreseal so that i(we)
dont have so much trouble.

One question :
phone,visitor,phone,pause,phone ....
Murphy's law: dont answer phone calls , you could forget your questions ...

Hi Dietmar,

With registry configured RAM EWF you can protect only one partition so this won't help you.
For now you will have to copy whole disk including small EWF config partition :(

In SP2 you should be able to protect more than one partition from registry.

Slobodan

Oh oh , that sounds very bad, because i have trouble with this extra
partition.
After cloning, the ewfmgr cant find this partition, maybe i make
something wrong, but all the howtos/articels sounds very easy and noone
tells which software can copy ( clone ) this.
Also may english is bad, and i take the wrong catchwords to find via google.
How do you clone your images ?
Or could it be my DOM and i have to take a real harddisk to prepare ?
Questions over questions, but tommorrow i should deliver :-(
I get so much tips and tricks from this newsgroup, i'm sorry that i cant
give something back.

Thanks for the answer

Dietmar

Hi Dietmar,

one tip I can give you from using the registry EWF:
I cloned the disk (Flash DOM) using Ghost 2003 to another DOM same size.
after cloning I got the "Failed...." error message when running ewfmgr.exe
I found out that ghost cloned my original 183MB partition to be 182MB. maybe
because of a different MBR that was originaly on the new flash.
anyhow, I used Paragon Partition Pro to extend the partition to 183MB and
the problem was gone...

maybe it is good to delete any remains of partitioning on disks before using
ghost.
BTW, I dont use any other cloning software so I'm not sure if it happens to
others too.

good luck!
