ewf enable write to file system when needed to only

How do I set all the configuration changes I've made in windows xp
embedded to be written and then have it reboot with those changes saved?
It should write any changes that I've made such as network
configuration, new files added, files changed etc. Can this be done? I
know it is possible because another windows xp embedded appliance does
just that by having an application on the desktop that is run.
