Jim

Not always but more often than not whenever I open up a
spreadsheet
if I just click one cell every cell that pass over will
turn black. I am then frozen on that page. I can move the
mouse up or down left and right highlighting rows and
colums as I go. I cannot get to the tool bar, I cannot
close out the program normaly. The only way I can close
out is by Ctrl Alt Delete. This happens whether it is an
existing file or a new page. ANY THOUGHTS ?

This may sound odd Jim, but perhaps when you click on the mouse the
button is sticking down, hence things are still highlighting when you
move the mouse around.

When you get the problem occur in Excel again, lift up the left mouse
button as far as it should go and see if that helps.

Dan.

Try opening excel whilst holding CTRL key, it maybe that you are loading
addins that are causing you a problem. Check from Tools>addins, disable
any that look suspect, close and reload as normal

Hi anonymous poster Jim,
Take a look at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/ghosting.txt
since there are many things there we need your feedback. But the
main thing having the latest mouse drivers (or ones that work).
Most people experiencing problems have a wheel mouse, but all
mice are wheel mice now except fur the real furry beasties.
