Everest Dictionary: Adverse Report.

I installed the Everest Dictionary to have a look at it. While some of
its functions appear interesting I cannot recommend it for English
spell checking as the install program uses the word "speach" instead
of "speech" in its agreement section and, in checking other words, it
did not appear to know the word "private" in the main dictionaries. By
contrast Wordweb has five definitions for "private".

These deficiencies leave me no alternative but to recommend that
English users not use this program at least in its present form. Not
checking the spelling of words in the documentation for a dictionary
program is, to me, an egregious and unforgivable error.

At the bottom of the application where it says
"sign here". I put "Sagittarius"

I just tested the word 'private', and Everest pulled up the correct
definitions, etc., from 5 of its dictionaries. 'Speech' being
misspelled in the agreement is a non-issue IMO.

Hm. It's not a spell checker but a dictionary. There are other programs
to spell check larger texts (like ASpell). A dictionary is targeted on
translating single words or on the provision of definitions for words
or short terms. Some other specialized forms (like Antonym dictionary)
are available.
uses the word "speach" instead of "speech" in its agreement section

English interface and help file have been done by the author of the
Everest dictionary (Daniel Vladutu), himself. I don't expect him (as
a Rumanian) to speak flawless English. But the dictionaries are good,
IMHO. I believe them to be adaptions of free dictionaries from the
Project Gutenberg. (Remember: Daniel has written an offline reader
for Gutenberg books, too.) If you don't like the wording used inside
the interface, then you can create your own interface using the
internal editor.

Can't confirm this.

<Shrug> Do as you wish.
