the past few days I managed to salvage 1 hd and the original one, a ibm
30gig which was my boot died a hard death. I tried scandisk and it hung
system while trying to repair my 60 gig, put a weird label on it and said
converting files to uppercase, whatever that means on NTFS. Either way, the
30gig is dead and the 60 gig i deleted the partition, rebooted a few times
during this and was able to reformat it for 60gig again.. with Partition
Magic, the only program I was able to use to view anything on the drive in
terms of info said, CRC error. So why I couldn't isolate the CRC and
continue very strange. Lost lots of data from this... and I have no idea
why.

At the time of the crash I was using Winrar and extracting a 1gig file of
pictures.

Strange.. the drives sounded as though they were chunking on the disc...
tried powering off multiple times, but only got up to Windows logo on screen
and it started chugging again.. Virus? I don't know but strange.. just
thought someone get a good laugh from this..

lol, guess not.

well hope it provided a chuckle, either way. One day I will find out what
happened. but considering i had a firewall and antivirus in place, find it
kind of odd. And it wasnt a power failure or dirty box.

A few years ago, I had dual 20gig hd's, don't remember the
make/manufactor I had them installed at the same time
and they both died at the same exact time, multiple
attempts to recover the data has failed, I have since
trashed them, but I found it odd that both drives died at
the same exact time. So you're not the only one this
happens to.
