since the last updates from microsoft in my event viewer/application i have a
constant stream of esent messages.over the past 24 hours there have been 36
instances of esent 100,101,102,103,all refering to the database engine
starting and stopping.references to ;-wuauclt 1964,wuaueng.dll 1964,wuaueng
1964.sus20 client datastore.
these instances dont relate to anything in the system, security and they
happen during the day and night.
is this normal or is there something that can be done ?

This is quite normal after you installed Windows Update V5 (included in
XPSP2).

According to this, WU6 is currently in beta testing:

That's just my Signature, ignore that
could you tell me what number ref was given to wu v5 and when it was

you got the WU5 control after installing:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=842773

and accessed http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ after July 2004,

but most people got it when they updated their computers to XPSP2.

Your Windows XP must have had SP2 preinstalled. Note, that unless you are
experiencing troubles, you should ignore the ESENT entries.
