Nina

I'm running XP Home Edition.

Quick history : Just before a Maxtor 80Gb hard drive died on my machine, I
noticed a series of disk related errors recorded under the system log in
event viewer. (These relate to Article 314093 on the MS Knowledge Base).

I've just had the drive replaced, and once again, I'm getting the same
errors. I exported the list to a file so it could be viewed by the
manufacturer of my PC.

Since then, the event viewer seems to have stopped recording anything at
all - it's stuck on the date I exported the list. To my knowledge, I haven't
altered any settings. Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Nina

To free an event log when it is full

1.. Open Event Viewer.
2.. In the console tree, click the log you want to free.
3.. On the Action menu, click Clear all Events.
Notes

a.. To open Event Viewer, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
b.. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to free an event log.
c.. When a log is full, it stops recording new events. Clearing the log is one way to free the log and start recording new events.
d.. You can also free a log and start recording new events by overwriting old events. To overwrite events, on the Action menu, click Properties, and then click Overwrite events as needed. This ensures that all new events are written to the log, even when the log is full.
e.. You can also start logging new events by increasing the maximum log size. To increase the log size, on the Action menu, click Properties, and then increase the Maximum log size.
