My computer is currently taking between 30 minutes and one hour to start. I defragged all of my drives and have been having problems since. I bought Windows XP when my last hard drive crashed, so there is a versiion of the old hardrive on the computer. I checked the event log and I am getting an error message. The Event ID is 7. The message is: the device, %1, has a bad block. Please help/

G'Day Neicybl,

A 'bad block' is an indication of a faulty or
corrupt disk.

FIRST:
Use 'chkdsk' to check (and attempt to repair)
each disk.....

TYPE ALL THE 'STUFF' IN [...] -
but do not type the brackets themselves.

Start>Run [cmd
ENTER]:.....

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]> [cd\]

C:\>
[chkdsk C: /r]
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N) [y ENTER]

C:\>
[exit]

REBOOT

Repeat this for EACH hard drive/drive partition.
