I've got a machine here running Windows XP Professional /SP1 on a P4 2.6Ghz,
1Gb RAM, Systemdisk with 5,6Gb free and two users sharing the computer. One
of the users has no problem with using the computer, but the other user
(User 2 we'll call him) experiences a lot of hang-ups after logging on
(mostly using 'Switch User'). Internet Explorer, e.g., can be started, but
cannot be closed ('Program not responding - send error report - yes - close;
IE stay active, try to close it and get into this eternal loop). Ignoring
the IE errorloop, the user tries to log off; after 3-5 minutes User 2 gets
'Logging off' screen and after that, the machine just hangs. It never seems
to get out of the Logging off. Only hard reset will help (with the other
active user losing all active apps and possible data).
Now, after examining the Application Log, User2 always generates the
following entry in the Application log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1507
Date: 16-3-2004
Time: 13:01:56
User: COMPUTER\User2
Computer: COMPUTER
Description:
This computer is in manual policy mode, but the policy file cannot be found.
Windows is logging you on without applying any policy. Return value (The
system cannot find the file specified. ).

I have search EventID.net, the Internet, Knowledge base, but I cannot find
anything that combines this 'Description' with Event 1507. The only 1507 I
can find is in conjunction with Exchange, but User2 is not using Exchange.
Office 2003 is installed on the computer and used for e-mail, word
processing etc. but uses POP accounts.
Has anyone else experienced this? Please let me know because I want to find
a solution to this problem....
