Hello everyone,

Ok there are a few people on this workgroup who are always referring
to this www.practicallynetworked.com website to learn how to allow
shares to be accessed by only allowed people. Has anyone been able to
successfully establish the network from the details given on this site
?

Im having troubles, even after going again and again on this site .. i
cant figure out whts wrong. The remote computer always says 'Access
Denied'. No login box, no nothing happens. This is wht Im doing...

(PS. I even tried reinstalling XP Pro to be sure i do everthing right
from beginning)

1. Disable simple file-sharing.

2. There are two other persons on my network both with winXP. their
computer names are ILLUSION and XEDHEAD. Both log on to their xp with
FS and XED profiles. FS has a password 'qqq' and no password set for
XED profile. I create these profiles in my system by the names FS
(with password 'qqq') and XED (with no pwd). My computer name is RAZI
and profile name is Faraz Azhar with no password.

3. I share the two folders called Folder1 and Folder2. The ACL for
Folder1 allows only FS to access and Folder2 to be accessed by XED
only. I remove the Everyone access from it.

4. Im confused about the Guest account. Should I enable it or disable
it ? should a password be set for it ? Currently it is disabled and no
password for it.

Still access denied. Need help people! This is very important to me, i
must figure this thing out! Plz reply to this post!

Thank you!

Faraz,

If you disabled Simple File Sharing, and disabled the Guest account,
then you need your users to authenticate as themselves.

Check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel - Administrative
Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at "Network
access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

And all accounts need a password. On all computers.

Cheers,
Chuck
