"Eval has ended"

Hi,
I recently had a motherboard replaced by DELL on a laptop. Was running XP Pro Eval which was UPGRADED to full, retail over the internet about 4 months ago. There is a receipt for this from a credit card.

This morning I turn on the machine and get the message. Your evaluation period has ended please purchase full retail version. the motherboard was replaced last week

How can this happen? Anyone have any suggestions? This is bad. But maybe there is a solution

How did you "UPGRADED to full, retail over the internet"?
I don't think that is possible as a retail CD with key is necessary.
And you can't download retail Windows anywhere without an MSDN
subscription.

Replacing the motherboard likely set the irreversible time bomb of the
evaluation version.

Thank you. This is what I was told by the company who owns the DELL. Apparently it was BS since as you say a full CD key would be needed and they would have given it to me to keep with the DELL. I will talk to them about it.

You can't upgrade to "full retail" over the internet!
