Maybe a silly question? - OE displays the Euro Symbol as a ? in incoming
messages. Is there a way to get it displayed properly?

TIA

you mean this ? character?

hold down Alt key, then type 0128 on the numeric keypad (not the number keys
at the top) to generate the Euro character. on incoming messages it should
automatically be displayed properly provided the character encoding in the
message header is correct

yes, the question mark ?
hold down Alt key, then type 0128 on the numeric keypad (not the number
keys at the top) to generate the Euro character.

so far it works.....

on incoming messages it
should automatically be displayed properly provided the character
encoding in the message header is correct

found already the solution by googling newsgroups - the problem seems that
OE6 defaults to Western European (ISO) obviously unable to display this
symbol properly. Changing "International Settings"(Read) to W..E.. (Windows)
as default fixed this problem. BTW, IE6 was affected as well displaying the
? instead the € (Euro symbol) in most cases but not always.

greetings from Brisbane and thx for your interest...

what character '€' <--- do you see now? the euro symbol or question mark?

This is the Euro symbol - I already changed the setting to W..E..(Windows)
For a test, I changed back to W..E..(ISO) and voila I see a ?(question mark)
instead the symbol!

Convinced now?! :-)

Question mark. ?

change character encoding to Western European (Windows) for both Read and
Send, the € euro symbol should display correctly

You need to have the character set on a Western European one in OE View
- Encoding to see the ¤ character even then - in your post I see ?
instead

it is customary to read the entire discussion thread before contributing
your own followup, so that you *know* what's been discussed already, that's
all i'm suggesting to you. the only reason i brought it up was because it
was the second time you've done that to me in the same day.

You need to keep in mind what is your customary method, and that of others, are two different stories. Many here who contribute do now download the whole threads, and/or typically reply to the OP. Also consider, that replying/reading (to) the whole thread makes it hard read for various reasons:

- It makes the the thread too long.

- Many that come here to help, simply won't go throug the whole thread to see if another has given the answer, so if one gives another, it is also worthy because it (may) add another perspective.

- Too many respondents top post, or bottom post, which can make reading the thread very hard.

- Most contributors do what you don't like most of the time.

- You should not dictate how others reply and post, rather except that another answer may be better, or give a little more detail.!

tom, as i've said to you before, if you can't follow a discussion thread,
that's not my problem... please don't make it so.

cheers

I follow threads just fine, it is you that insists other read, and reply with the whole thread still includued in thier posts. if you can't handle anothers post, or help advice, then that is not my problem, rather yours that you cannot handle that people help out, and sometimes better your advice!

[blahblahblah - snip!]

yawn... give it a rest, tom

and before you speak about others' abilities to provide technical advice and
help, you might want to do a search on my articles. i've looked at yours...
i was not impressed.

no, not at all... just pointing your finger back at you, tom

i've had a cursory look at all 150+ articles posted by you in this NG... as
i say, i was unimpressed, and it appears that you have a penchant for making
baseless counter-arguments, from what i've read so far
