Is there an etiquette file for these MS newgroups? I've looked, probably in
the wrong places, but cannot find one.

Also, archives? Expec;ted to find those too but couldn't.

Pop,

Many newsgroups periodically publish a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) article
that contains tips and etiquette, plus information specific to the group. This
one doesn't seem to though.

Google Groups provides a good set of articles about posting etiquette.

For archives, Google Groups is a good place to start too. This group, for
instance, microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support, can be found at
<http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support>.

One specific tip: learn to munge your email address, to keep yourself a bit
safer when posting to open forums. Much spam and viruses are sent to email
addresses posted in plain text to these forums.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
