I was hit by the sasser worm therefore had to completely
reformat and reinstall XP. My problem now is that when I
connect via my ethernet to the cable modem, computer will
run for a few minutes, then shutdown! If i turn on my
computer without connecting it runs fine. I've changed
ethernet cards and ports inside 3 times.....still does
the same thing! Shuts down when connected. My laptop
works just fine via the wireless, so no problems with
that!!
Could it be the ethernet card, cable modem.....I just
don't know. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

Ron,

If you were connected to the internet for as long as 30 seconds, and have not
yet installed a software firewall, and up to date antivirus, and applied all
recommended patches, you could be infected again.

What error do you see when it shuts down?

If your computer is constantly attempting to shutdown or reboot:
Start - Run, type "shutdown -a", and hit Enter.
That should halt the reboot. Now fix the problem.

Immediately turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:
