I have one computer with winxp pro, theother with win 98.
I conneccted them with an ethernet crossable cable and they appear to be
connected athough I havn'et configured any static addresses or anything .
anyway, the local area connection staus on winxp says it is connected.
there are packets being sent and recived, so I figure there must be a
connection. Hoeever, I haven't the slightest idea how to access the files
on win 98 from winxp. Where do I look for the other computer ?

thanks

You need to share a folder on you Windows 98 PC, the File and Print sharing service should be enable on your network properties and in Windows XP right-click on My Network Places icon and select search for other computers where you will put the name of your Windows 98 PC (The computer name is displayed on the network identification tab on network properties)

OK file and print sharing is enabled on win98....

When I search for other computers it wants to know the name to search for.
How do I find out the name of the win98 computer ?

If I leave the search blank it only finds the winxp computer.
