When I try to print from my pc (XP professional svc pck 2), I get an error
message of "failed to print". I have looked at everything I can think of but
am having no luck. Any suggestions would help.

Visit the printer manufacturer's website to download and install the
latest driver.

Not knowing what "everything I can think of" actually is makes it
difficult to help you.

Good point. I have tried reloading each printer, old and bew drivers, but it
does not make a difference. It is as if something has changes in the user
environment. What could I look for in a user environment that could effect
printers?

Does your printer driver support SP2? Does your printer maker have a newer
driver for your unnamed printer?
Apart from that you haven't given any information to even guess at possible
causes.

(Printers have manufacturer names, models, various connection types, then
there are lasers, inkjets, impact, thermal ......... which really gives too
broad an area to give much but general advice, people could give info about-
for example- a network printer and completely waste their time if it is not
a network printer. )

The problem does not appear to be in the setup process of printers, that is
ok. It is after the printer is setup that the problem happens. When I send
a document to any one of my printes (local or network) I get the error
message. That is why I suspect something in the user environment. Is there
anywhere on the pc that would give more information about this type of
problem?

Describe the printers, how they are connected, what programs are used to
print to the printers. Give the exact wording of the "failed to print",
including any error numbers. You also mention network. Also describe your
network. All of this information is necessary to assist you in determining
why the printers won't print.

AN EXAMPLE: I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1280. Connected to computer 1 (XP
Pro - SP2 all updates, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB C with 56 GB free) connected using
the computer's USB 2 port with a USB 2.0 certified cable. Connected to
computer 2 (XP Home SP2 with all updates, 100 GB with 40 GB free C) with the
computer's standard Parallel port with a standard parallel cable. Both
systems have the latest drivers from Epson installed. When I print from
Computer 1 (USB) the printer works fine. When I print from Computer 2, I
receive 2 pages for every one I am attempting to print, a blank one then the
proper data.

THE above example is just part of the information I would give if I was
attempting to get help from a newsgroup. BTW, This actually happened to me
once (had the wrong paper size defaulted on C-2 and still don't know why I
got the blank page first).

In the meantime, open your Printers and Faxes in Control panel. Right
click on each printer's properties and turn off Print Spooling under the
advanced tab by click "Print directly to the printer" and see if this fixes
your problem. If so, your print spooler service is probably not starting
properly.

Follow the flow of the conversation. Your changing to top posting makes it
hard to follow your question and the responses- some people won't bother
trying and you lose help.

You *still* haven't given any information for people to be able to get an
idea of what may be the issue. As has already been said if you really want
help you'll have to let go of some of the things you are still keeping
secret. If you are unwilling to do this that is fine- it is your choice and
you can enjoy exploring the many help pages available on the web.

And changing the flow of the posts- changing to top posting after bottom
posts makes it hard to follow your question and the responses- some people
won't bother trying and you lose help.
