Hello Red
Have you tried disabling the firewall to see if it will work.
I know this sounds weird but remember reading somewhere about the clock
setting causing an error in windows update, check your clock and see if it
set to the correct year.

Hello,

I have the same error message (0x800C0005) in trying to use Windows Update and I have been working through your helpful tips, Jupiter Jones. I had thought it had something to do with my firewall (AtGuard) and secure site access as I cannot access any secure sites or MSN Messenger for that matter either.
However, in going through the list on your recommended page http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/0x800c0005.htm, I discovered that my trusted certificate NO LIABILITY ACCEPTED says it has expired, and it does not say 'This certificate is ok' on the certification path tab (It says 'This certificate has expired or is not yet valid'.) So, is this a problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks for any advice

Is this an error you get while attempting to use Windows Update
If so
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/0x800c0005.ht
Follow every step carefully

If this is not a Windows Update issue, you need to give more detail
as the fix may not be correct

My mistake, after doing some checking as well as verifying on
functional computers, that is OK.
The site has been corrected.
