What does this mean? and how do I get rid of it?

"The instruction at "0x006d1613" referenced memory at "0x002d6678". The
memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program"

Happens a lot, and is very annoying.

Well It depend on what IE? Version you have?.

If you get Memory Cannot be read or written. As the name refer to, it is a
memory problem, some applications/programs
didn't release the memory in timely fashion causing the Error to be thrown by
the system error reporting tools.
Also it could be the work of malwares, badly written application installed
on your system including third party toolbars installed beside Internet
explorer, do you have other toolbars installed try to uninstall them, memory
gone bad or loose in their slots/dust also can cause this.
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

2... You need to be sure your system is clean from malware and Viruses by
scanning for them
Scan for malwares from here:

http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

=How to perform a clean boot procedure to prevent background programs from
interfering with a game or a program that you currently use

3... You may have a bad RAM try to test your RAM by running Memtest by
downloading this tool and unzip it and make a floppy or CD/DVD and run it on
Reboot.

You may need to reposition/reset the RAM sticks in their slots.

It means a running program has crashed. What is running at the time?
there should be some indication of the program name on that window's title
bar, or in Task Manager, or even better, via Process Explorer.

Thanks for the reply...sometimes it is the update program for ANY software I use...Windows XP, Yahoo, etc... It also happens when I close a program, i.e. Quicktime, Forefox, etc...
Usually, the program runs anyway behind it, except for update programs, I
can't update anything automatically anymore, not even Windows XP.

Thank you for the quick response...

I use Firefox and only use IE for Windows Update. I have no toolbars
installed in Firefox at all, and haven't for a long time.

Did this, thanks for the link. Scanned with the AdWare program, found 4
infected files, removed them, but the problem still persists.
=How to perform a clean boot procedure to prevent background programs from

Tried this too, didn't help.

You may need to reposition/reset the RAM sticks in their slots.

I originally thought this was the problem about a month ago, maybe more
(when the errors first started popping up), and have interchanged 4 sticks of
ram in as many possibilities as I can think of, and still, the problem
persists.

I did a bit of research on the internet, and no-one seems to know how or why
this error comes up. Microsoft only has a solution if the memory can't be
"written", and I have never seen that error, only the "read" ones.
Some folks did find solutions to their problems, but none seemed to be
related to mine, as I wasn't using the same, or even similar, software to
what they had listed. Some even argue that it is a "bug" planted by Microsoft
so that one has to upgrade their OS in order to solve the problem.

Anyway, the error pops up at boot up, at shutdown, when I try to update
Windows (haven't succeeded yet), when I open programs, shut programs...

It seems to be happening all the time, and never at the same time, or when
the same things happen...

Was hoping someone actually knew what was going on...

I really do appreciate your feedback though...

Hi Fabio,
I read your reply to Patrick and you mentioned Yahoo?, doesn't this count as
Toolbar or you mean your e-mail?.
What kind of malware/infection the Anti-Spyware did find?, and did you
scanned for Viruses with an Up2date software?.
Please have a look in the Event viewer for error message that can point to
an application or Hardware failure and post them in your next post.

Use these two utilities to see what applications/Programs running in the
background:
"Process Explorer for Windows v10.21"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/processexplorer.mspx

"AutoRuns for Windows v8.61 By Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

I meant Yahoo! Messenger..is that considered a toolbar?

Also, I ran those 2 utilities and to be honest, I have no idea what I was
looking for, but I did find this...

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components
0 File not found: About:Home

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved
Display Panning CPL Extension File not found: deskpan.dll

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
PavSRK.sys File not found: C:\WINDOWS\system32\PavSRK.sys
PavTPK.sys File not found: C:\WINDOWS\system32\PavTPK.sys

That's about it...

Thanks again for all the input so far...
