Error:; 'WindowsValidationAssistant' is undefined

MS has a utility to test/prove that your xp install is legal.
I have successfully run the untility on all my pcs but one.
On this pc when I click the "validate now" button the expected window comes
up but after a few seconds it errors out. There is a status icon in windows
lower lefthand corner. When you double click it, you get the logfile of the
activex script which says...

I have already checked that the internet securty slider is at the "medium"
default.
(I have confirmed that "download signed activex controls" is at "prompt").
I have also run a successful activex test via
http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp

Any ideas? I know I'm legal I just want my pc setup so that I can run MS
downloads and untilites in the future without hassle.

As with all MS code, it ain't bullet-proof. And when MS uses technology
to limit the use of their products, someone will be screwed by it. It
happens with Activation, and it will happen with MS's piracy checker.

Windows Validation Assistant is totally USELESS and unnecessary code for
the end user, so thank MS for screwing up something that you have no
real use for!

Go to "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files" and remove the "Windows
Genuine Advantage Validation Tool" then reinstall the AcitiveX component
from MS downloads.

Let us know if it works or not.

Wow. I really thought you were on to somthing.
I did the delete as indicated.
Tried again - same issue.
rebooted.
Tried again - same issue.
examined directory
c:\windows\downloaded program files

and interestingly enough there is NOT a new/replacement entry for what we
deleted.

So we are still experienceing the same issue as before. I am unwilling to
pay microsoft for support on this issue as this validation assistant is for
their benifit not mine. I don't know where to turn next. If anyone has
further ideas I'm open to them.
