I have just replaced my Motherboard (MSI KM3M) and CPU (AMD XP300+). When I
try to Boot into window XP .. OR .. Run the Windows setup disk, I get the
error "A problem Has Been Detected and Windows has been shut down to Prevent
Damage to Your Computer. I Ran the Norton 2005 antivirus from the CD and no
viruses were detected. I turned off the virus check in the BIOS and this
allowed the XP setup to get to the point where I could select "R" to get a
command prompt. When it was doing it's Check Disk, it got to 78% and
restarted. I am going to put different memory on the motherboard in hopes
that that will help me, but I'm in the dark at this point. Has anyone has
this problem and what did you do? Thanks ... JD

You replaced the motherboard.. You likely need to perform a repair
installation.

The XP setup won't let me get to the point to get to that option in the XP
setup. The same error message is displayed before I get to that screen. That
is why I went into the "R" command prompt to do a manual CHKDSK and after the
setup check disk gets to 78% it restarts..

That sounds like a bum motherboard to me.. Possibly bad controller (HDD).
