Error: smartheap library out of memory XP

A couple of weeks ago I saw an onscreen report along the lines that XP was
adjusting its heap memory settings - now today I have the following error
and my PC has slowed down and some apps are failing to run properly or at
all. What should I do to address the smartheap problem?

'Smartheap' sounds like a report from some application you are running
that is trying to manipulate memory allocations in its own right - it is
not a Windows term. Possibly an Adobe product.
