XP Pro - ver. 5.1.2600, 2.4 Mhz, 1 GB mem., 80GB HD
After loading XP Pro I get a message that Windows has recovered from a serious error. Send message to "Error Repoting" and the only indication I get is a driver conflict. When I try to download SP1 the system hangs and becomes very buggy. The computer will shut down sporadically. I have formatted the HD several times and re-install with the same results
I have not loaded any programs on the computer
Any suggestions?

Have used both Home & Pro with same results (2 different disks). The USB drivers show all is loaded but they will not operate

Have you looked at Device Manager to see if you have any hardware problems?
Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the Hardware tab.

Prior to installing Windows XP did you disconnect all external hardware?

Prior to installing Windows XP did you run the compatibility program on the
Windows XP CD?

The driver conflict {I think} could also mean that you need a firmware
update on your CD drives.

Only guess based on the information provided.

I checked the Device Manager, all is OK there. The box is not connected to anything, including speakers. I think you are on the right track though re the CD drive or the hard drive - that will be my next attempt
