I've read that this is a looping problem and even if it's temporarily
fixed it will repeat....Is this true?

I've seen the MS article for a fix but I'm not sure if it states or
claims the above comment.......I really don't want to waste my time with
this machine if it is a repeating process......

BTW: The system is XP Pro SP2....and the error appears after the BIOS
post display allowing no access to windows, the recovery console, safe
mode etc.

Not necessarily, it's registry corruption. You have to find out the
underlying cause for it. If you don't then it will re-occur.

If nothing in the following article helps, you are pretty much out of options and will need to reinstall XP. Try the guided help in this article. The article specifies the known fixes for the problem, but whether it will repeat or not, nobody can really predict.

Thanks Ronnie that will be one of my steps.........Running ERD Commander
at the moment to see what's on here......I'll probably just wipe it
after running some hardware tests of course......

Thanks for the help.

Not really. If a problem is "fixed," it's gone. That's what "fixed"
means. It sounds like you've been listening to people who repeatedly
address the symptoms of the problem (the corrupted registry), but never
bother to track down and eliminate the cause.

Once you've recovered, you might want to look here, as well, so
that you can actually find the cause and fix it:

In my experience the most common cause of recurring instances of
registry corruption is defective RAM. Download one of the following
free memory test programs and check out the RAM:

DocMemory http://www.simmtester.com
Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Memtest86: http://www.memtest86.com

Good luck
