After creating a nice copy of XPE and booting it, when i logon at desktop
display i see this error "Registry data not found !" I am using macros, and
have no dependency errors before i build my image. Please help?

If it is your first XPe image, I'd suggest you to start with TA/TAP approach (not just a macro).

Check your configuration Target Device settings in TD.
Also, you may want to check \windows\FBALog.txt log file to see if any errors are there.

PS. What exactly did you mean by "a nice copy of XPE"?

Yeah i Did do the Tap approach and there were no dependency errors. Ill
check that log file and see if there is any errors in there. Any other ideas
would be appreciated

Nice copy, i dont know, i Just meant basicly that I really love XPE because
its amazing so I suppose it was a compliment on XPE :)

Okay looking at that error log, I only recieved errors for my ATI drivers.
Other than that everything seems file.

Ok. :-)
I was just about to think that you had had a working XPe image and then it stopped working after some changes.

Would it be possible for you to attach the log to this thread?
Then we can make some suggestions reviewing the log. Without it we don't much information about the image you made.

I attached the log file, and then relized that I made no mention of it :).
Its there though

Well.. You were right. Nothing obvious from the log.

I noticed you changed the Windows directory name. Could that happen that you included some custom components (or 3rd party driver)
or Extra Files that uses "c:\windows" hardcoded path?

I don't have any good idea for you.
You can try:
- check setupapi.log to see if any errors are there.
- analyze your Startup, Run, RunOnce items to see if any app is there that might cause the message

The error message, btw, does not seem to come from any OS component. Are you sure you don't have any custom drivers/apps in the
image?

From the fbalog it looks like this is a laptop, right? just curious.

for the ati driver error, you're missing some dependency in the
component like the class installer probably. Error 0x2 is "missing
file". also, your Smart Link modem driver is also hosed in the runtime.
<grin>

for the registry error upong logon, is the system usable, or is it in a
hosed state? Do you have Eventvwr in the runtime so you can check the
eventlog? To add that feature, add the "Administraton Support Tools"
component.

Yes this is a laptop.
The ATI driver, yeah i noticed the dependency issue, thats not a real
problem i can fix that later. And im ignoring my Modem thing becuase i dont
even use it <grin>.
And as far as the registry error what do you mean is the system useable? I
can hit WinKey+R for run dialog and WinKey+e for explorer and browse my
machine. And i do not have event viewer in the runtime. Do you feel that the
event viewer would help me in this issue? Thanks

Hehe. alright So I changed the directory name so i was not forced to
repartition my hard drive (as this is a laptop i dont have any extra drives
in it nor do i want to go through the hassle of repartitioning it). in my
first image i didn include 3rd party drivers. In my most recent image, i
removed them (with the acception of the ATI driver which doesnt work anyway)
So i dont believe this would be the source of the issue.
As for the log, ill give it a look and hope i find somthing useful in it. As
far as analyzing my startu run runonce items, where would i do this? in the
builder?

Thanks for all your help

When you changed the windows XPe directory did you change \Programs Files and \Documents&Settings too (especially the last one).
On the laptop do you have XP Pro installed? The directories may overlap.

Run items:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx]

Start Up items:
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
"C:\Documents and Settings\<User Profile>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" (where User Profile is probably Administrator for you if
you don't use any other user accounts)

After playing with WindowsXPE I found that with this error occouring i was
not able to view my display properties, this could either be a coincidence
or somthing to due with the Registry data not found problem. IF this helps
anyone in solving this crazy error please let me know.

So, im an idiot, ignore that post
